History

Masutatsu Oyama founded Kyokushin - "the ultimate truth" - in 1964, after years of solitary mountain training and demonstration bouts that became legendary. It is the style that brought full contact back to karate competition, without protection, testing technique and character alike.

Principles

  • Full contact in competition, without protective gear
  • Physical and mental conditioning taken to the limit
  • Osu no seishin - the spirit of persevering under pressure
  • Training as a way to forge character, not only technique
